Haven’s domestic violence shelter is a residential home that houses up to 12 women and children. The new building will house up to 40. The building will triple Haven’s shelter capacity and has been in the planning phase since 2013.
Between 2017 and 2018, Haven saw a 14% increase in survivors seeking support and attributed some of that growth to an increase in referrals from health care providers and law enforcement. In 2019 Haven worked with 1,120 survivors. Since the start of 2020 and the requirements of "shelter in place" from Covid, the numbers have grown astronomically.
Haven has seen an increase in the percentage of underserved populations seeking assistance. Approximately 8% are Native American and 3.7% of those Haven served spoke limited English.
The new shelter is being designed by the MASS Group and is in the final design phase. Along with many other community members, KW+A has donated the LEED services to the project.
