An 8,000-acre private development by a Utah family will extend the visitor experience of Zion National Park. Located on the eastern border of the park, the project will consist of a phased development of a visitor contact station, central green infrastructure, and lodge. The vision is for these to be 100-year buildings that reflect an iconic national park look and feel for the future generations. Active in the supporting development plans are Zion National Park, King County, Utah, and The Conservation Fund.
A major goal is to teach sustainable agriculture and food as a 5,000 square foot hydroponic greenhouse generates produce for Zion Mountain Ranch's restaurant. Programatic features being planned are for families to engage in the growing and understanding of sustainable farming and ranching.
Living Building Challenge is being explored for the visitor contact station and Living Community application for the entire gateway development.
