This LEED version 4 Operations and Maintenance program centers on the Mount Rushmore Concessions Building. A major renovation, undertaken by Park Concessionaire, Xanterra Parks and Resorts, was completed in 2017, paving the way for the O&M project on the 44,498 square foot building.
The project addressed sustainable operations and maintenance of the new dining hall, named Carver's Cafe, which has a "scatter system" dining replacing the cafeteria-style common to the national parks. The renovated building houses a gift shop, warehouse space, and offices. A greenhouse provides local produce for the dining hall and attracts visitors, particularly in the winter months.
The new parking facility with the park is pursuing the ParkSmart rating system.
This Sustainable Operations project was awarded LEED-Platinum in 2020.
